Pranks on April fool’s Day are a common affair and are mainly for the purpose of sheer fun and merriment of all involved. But these harmless fun and merriment are often being distorted by some and made very sadistic. The following are examples of the worst April Fool’s Day pranks that show how the purpose of these pranks were lost when the jokes became very crude and shocking and took aback the persons concerned. One first of April, Saddam Hussein, along with his sons played one of the worst pranks on the citizens of their country. They announced in the National newspaper, that the President of the US at the time, President Clinton, had made the decision to lift the Iraq sanctions, only admitting the next day that it was one of the pranks on the April fool’s day. The whole nation was taken aback and left aghast! It didn’t end there. The next year the prank was repeated and this time it said that the ration would include Pepsi, bananas and even chocolate. The whole nation was too excited when promised such high quality food only to realize the very next day that it was just another prank played by the president and his sons. This ultimately lead to the celebration being banned in the country altogether.

Another one of the harrowing pranks on the April fool’s day include the one that was played on Glenn Howlett at the London City Hall when he received a phone call saying that he has to submit one of the most important reports on the 1st of April, which in reality was due much later. Unfortunately he did not notice the date, but hurried back from his holiday cancelling his vacation and worked doggedly on the report only to realize that he would never be able to complete the report by the given deadline. He became tensed and panicked. He even collapsed in exhaustion and was hospitalized. He then filed for an early retirement. Only at this point someone informed him that the untimely deadline was one of the pranks on the April fool’s day He sued and filed for the damages and after this incident; the city hall prohibited all employees from playing any pranks.

Another worst of the pranks was played by a DJ at the Oregon radio station when he announced that the Ochoco dam had burst and that there will be massive flooding. As soon as the news reached the locals they fled with whatever belongings they could grab and vacated the area in panic. Later the DJ informed that it was only a joke and he was just having a little fun. But the residents did not find a disaster warning funny. The DJ was fined and went without pay for two weeks.

Pranks on the April fool’s day are common but these pranks are more sarcastic and sadistic in nature. What was meant to be for fun and merriment lost its charm in these cases. These are definitely some of the worst Fools’ Day jokes ever played.
